What's Up?

The answer to the above question is A LOT! We have a ton of things going on this week in our class. Our Valentine's Day party will be this Friday, February 13th at 1:30 in the afternoon. We will be enjoying ice cream sundaes with fresh fruit. As customary for the holiday we will exchange valentines within our class. Your child is bringing home a class list today to aide in the addressing of their valentines. The process of addressing valentines is a fun experience for children; it is also a wonderful exercise in handwriting. Please have your child bring his or her valentines to school on or before Friday. Also, happy birthday this week to Logan (10th)!

Reading:This week we will be reading the book Hide, Clyde! by Russell Benfanti. Our concept question for this book is: "How do chameleons change?" Our AMAZING WORDS for this book are: chameleon, jungle, pattern, skin, hide, and scampered. Our sight words for this week will continue to be they, of, and you.

Phonics: We will continue to work with the short sound of Oo. We will be listening for the /o/ sound not only at the beginning of words, but also in the middle of words. We will also introduce the sound made by the letter Zz.
Math: This week we will begin a new chapter titled Money and Time. In this chapter we will learn to recognize coins and their value. We will also learn about time, using a calendar and a clock.

Your child is bringing home a folder full of information today. This information includes: two papers regarding our new math chapter, information about our Valentine's Day celebration, two phonics stories for your child to practice reading at home, this week's Family Times, Chaffee Talent Show information, and cupcake sale information. Whew!
