What are we doing this week?

Welcome to our blog! We are now in full swing this week. Here is a quick overview of what is going on in our classroom.

Reading: In reading this week we are reading The Little School Bus by Carol Roth. For our first reading unit we are learning about how we live, work and play together. The concept question for this week is How do we get to school? We will be talking about all the different ways we get to school. We will also be learning new vocabulary words this week. Our AMAZING WORDS are: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. Children are not required to know how to read or spell these words, we are just working on learning their meaning. We will be learning the sight words I and am. You will be receiving a Family Times magazine to read with your child. There are some activities in the magazine that have been designed to reinforce concepts taught at school.

Math: In math this week we will be continuing our chapter on sorting and classifying. This week we will focus on how to sort items by color, shape, size, and kind. We will also learn how to make a concrete graph. Your child will have their first homework assignment on Thursday night. Please help your child complete the assignment and then return it to school on Friday.

As always thank you for your continued support of our program. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please feel free to contact me. aavery@hsv.k12.al.us
